Owen Smith pays tribute to the classic San Francisco hard-boiled detective novel, Dashiell Hammett's The Maltese Falcon, with a series of colorful and expressive characters showcased in posters commissioned by the San Francisco Arts Commission’s Art on Market Street 2008 Program.

The posters will be installed from Monday, June 16th, to Thursday, September 18th, on the pedestrian side of kiosks on Market Street between Van Ness and the Embarcadero.

As part of the project, on Saturday, June 28th, at 1 PM, Don Herron will lead one of his popular Dashiell Hammett Tours beginning at the southeast corner of Market and Third Streets in downtown San Francisco.

In addition to visiting Sam Spade’s and Miles Archer’s office and other San Francisco sites included in The Maltese Falcon, tour participants will see Owen’s posters and hear the artist discuss how he selected and developed an image for each of the character's posters.
