While continuing to work as a freelance illustrator for publications and advertising agencies in the US and various other countries,
Ingo Fast traveled twice around the world over the last several years.

“While I used airplanes for the most part during the first few years for my travels, I ended up making a "slow trip" for the last thirteen months, traveling by sailboat (across the Atlantic), bus, car, hitch-hiking, ferry, train, riverboat, horse (in Mongolia), motorbike, camper van, and container ship.”

“To talk and write, and to transmit sketches and finished illustrations to clients I used communication tools like wireless internet and a mobile phone for voice and text, but also a VOIP adapter, Skype, traditional dial-up internet for no better choice, courier services, and a laptop data hook-up via my satellite phone which on its own I also used to send and receive text and email messages.”

“It was, in short, an immense personal experience, enriched with many questions and aspects relating to working as a sort of modern nomad, or simply to being a witness at the crossroads of cultures with the help of a bit of advanced technology.”
