Award-winning ispotter Stephen Savage teamed up with wine-tote inventors Built NY to take on the project of creating zoo animal lunchboxes. Stephen’s animal faces do more than just captivate: they store, tote, insulate and zip out to become clean placemats on grubby little desks. Practical, whimsical, colorful… What’s not to love?  See Stephen’s Portfolio here.

“BUILT came to me in January with the project. They were familiar with my book, POLAR BEAR NIGHT, and felt my minimal/iconic style  was right for the project. They also knew that the straight lines and  crisp angles in my work would work nicely on their soft, mushy forms.”

“BUILT had 4 bag shapes already determined. It was up to me to decide what each shape resembled: cat, dog, bird, reptile, etc.”

“I made paper models of each bag, then sketched directly on the model. Once we were all satisfied with the basic design, I refined the image on a flattened pattern.”

“The trick was coming up with a good 'collection': four animals that differed from each other and would appeal to a broad range of kids.”
