Cathleen,

Your idea of an e-mail alert is an excellent one and I am willing to bet that the Guild will act on your request.  My initial reaction with respect to Theispot's involvement is that we are doing a good job at providing and promoting this forum for online discussions such as this.  I think the Guild does a great with their e-mail Contract Monitor service and see no compelling reason for duplicating their effort.

Cathleen,

For starters I think we should send a letter en masse (illustrator/designers as signatories) to the editor at the Globe. If anyone has suggested this already, my apology. No time to read every word of every thread.

I would affix my name to a general letter of opposition to such terms (with a more specific proposal to follow). Legal is truly getting in their overtime on such projects as this. I did alot of work for the Globe here in bygone days, and if they have adopted this language in their contract, they should know how many vendors there are who consider such language nothing short of an insult.

I can't find the CONTRACT on-line, but a direct link to the Boston Globe "Editorial Administration CONTACT Page" (email addresses to administrators), for anyone who would like to send letters, is:

The Managing Editor/Administrator/Freelance is Louisa Williams:

Here's the url:

www.bostonglobe.com/freelance

It seems this is a brand new contract, and I
am one of the first to get it.
